Bicycle Tour Astoria, OR to Missoula, MT |

| Astoria to Eugene | The travels of Johnny
Mango and (yours truly) Mike Biker have set a new course. Since
the Mexico to Canada journey up the Continental Divide the gentlemen
(and I use the term loosely) have been trying to decide what trek spurs
their interest. After months of deliberation it is apparent that
crossing the USA from west to east may be our next ride. Beginning
in Astoria, Oregon at the mouth of the Columbia River and traveling
South along the coast until cannon beach where we head to Eugene and
then due east to Missoula, Montana. Missoula some of you may recall is
the home of "Adventure Cyclist" the organization that
publishes the maps used on our ventures. At the point where we
reach Missoula I will leave my good friend to continue his journey to
the east coast alone.
Astoria has a special place in my heart for more than 15 years ago my wife, Carol, my brother Bob and his wife Betty, began an adventure riding down the coast of Oregon. We had ridden the train from Albuquerque to Portland and found our way to Astoria. The town itself was very small at that time and had not been discovered by California tourist. Today is a different story. |
