Columbia Falls to Eureka

I had left the attachment for the digital camera in the van so I had to ride out to the Dollar Rental Car.  Luckily it was part way on our route.  Jon waited at the local service station across from the the Blue Moon Bar.  He of course made friends with a displaced roofer Ken.  Ken was very interested in our mode of transportation.  But he didn't think he could haul his ladder on the bike trailer.  I reassured him that those new folding ladders would work fine but he still was leery.

Out of Columbia headed north to Eureka we were making good time.  I got behind Jon and he pulled off in Olney and I passed him by.  He called me (thank God for cell phones).  I waited for him at a smoothie bar where I indulged in a carrot banana specialty topped off with a vanilla coffee frapacino.  I don't know if this is a condoned liquid diet.  But it was sure good.

Jon caught up and told me he met a couple, father and daughter who had ridden from New York on their way to Seattle. Once Jon and I arrived at a country store and gas station Chris and Hailey arrived not far behind.  We shared stories and hypothesis regarding our mutual sanity.

From there to Eureka the road was quaint but gravel, and in some places steep. We were glad to find a camping site in the town park and showers at the abandoned Fire House.  $5.00 collected by the constable took care of any security issues and $5.00 more deposit for the shower key that was refundable.  That evening we met Chris and Hailey at Cafe Jax and talked until after 11:00.  I slept well and Jon had to wake me for the shower key in the morning.

Jon handed his camera over to Hailey and she took off taking pictures.
